Two Rising Star Oromo Artists, Abducted and Under Severe Torture

correspondents reported from Finfinnee (Addis Ababa) that two young
Oromo rising stars whose songs have been extremely popular among the
Oromo population, male artist Haacaaluu Hundasaa and female artist
Dirribee Gadaa, have been abducted by the Tigrean led Ethiopian
government armed personnel on September 15, 2009 and reportedly taken
to the notorious so called Ma’ikelawi prison and are under severe
torture for allegedly “glorifying Oromo fighters by singing”.


The two artists have been increasingly popular
by their songs which praises Oromo heroes who gave their lives for the
just cause of the Oromo people. Artist Dirribee Gadaa is a member of a
music band, known as “Band of Oromo Heroes”, recently formed in Eastern
Shoa zone of Oromia. The video clip of one of her extremely loved songs
have been released and is currently available on YouTube and several other Oromo websites.

In
a related news, an Oromo university student Taayyee Danda’aa, whose
arrest have been reported by OLF News two weeks ago, is reportedly
severely tortured in Ma’ikelawi prison for more than 15 days and
currently disappeared. The report added that it is not known at this
moment if student Taayyee is dead or alive. It is to be recalled that
OLF News has reported arrests of several Oromos from Finfinnee and
Oromia in recent weeks.
